Three-Bean Homestead Chili

Easy Three-Bean Homestead Chili 🌶️

There is nothing quite like a big pot of chili simmering on the stove! It’s one of those easy, comforting meals that brings everyone to the kitchen and makes the whole house smell delicious.

This Three-Bean Homestead Chili came together using simple pantry staples and a few fresh ingredients. With hearty ground beef, three kinds of beans, sweet corn, tomatoes, and just the right amount of seasoning, it’s a filling and flavorful meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights, cozy weekends, or feeding a crowd.

The best part? This recipe makes a big pot, so you’ll likely have plenty left over for lunch the next day—and, in my opinion, chili is even better after the flavors have had time to mingle overnight!

What You’ll Need

  • 2 pounds ground beef

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 1 can diced tomatoes with garlic and onion

  • 1 can dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 can mild chili pinto beans, including the sauce

  • 1 can corn, drained

  • 1 can diced green chiles

  • 1 packet chili seasoning mix

  • ½–1 cup water, as needed

Optional Additions

If you have a few extra spices on hand, you can add even more flavor with:

  • 1–2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • A pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes for extra heat

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make It

1. Brown the Beef and Onion

In a large Dutch oven or soup pot, cook the ground beef and diced onion over medium-high heat until the beef is fully browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess grease if needed.

2. Add the Seasoning

Stir in your chili seasoning and let it cook with the beef for about 30 seconds. This helps wake up all those delicious spices!

3. Add the Rest of the Ingredients

Add the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, cannellini beans, chili pinto beans with their sauce, corn, and diced green chiles. Give everything a good stir.

If you prefer a thinner chili, add about ½ cup of water. You can always add a little more later if needed.

4. Let It Simmer

Bring the chili to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer uncovered for 30–45 minutes. Stir occasionally and enjoy the wonderful smell filling your kitchen!

5. Taste and Serve

Give your chili a taste and adjust the seasonings as needed. Add a little extra salt, pepper, or spice depending on your family’s preferences.
